Can you introduce your role at R/GA?
Rob Northam is executive creative director at R/GA, working across brand, digital experience and emerging technology. His role sits where creative direction, product thinking and client transformation meet: helping brands understand what new technologies make possible, without losing sight of the experience people actually need.
How are LLMs changing digital experiences?
Rob frames LLMs as a shift away from static websites and fixed journeys toward more adaptive, conversational experiences. The opportunity is not simply adding a chatbot to an interface, but rethinking how people find information, complete tasks and build relationships with brands when software can respond more intelligently.
What does agentic technology mean for brands?
Agentic systems will raise expectations for how brands serve customers. If agents can act on behalf of people, compare options, remember preferences and complete tasks, brand experiences will need to become more useful, more responsive and more deeply integrated into the customer's context.
How should designers respond to this shift?
For designers, the challenge is to move beyond surface-level interface decisions and design the behaviour of the system itself. Tone, trust, timing, intent and escalation all become design materials. The work becomes less about screens alone and more about shaping the relationship between people, brands and intelligent services.
What should brands be careful about?
Rob's perspective is that technology only matters when it improves the experience. Brands should avoid using AI as novelty and instead ask what problem it solves, what value it creates, and where human judgement or service still needs to be present. The strongest applications will feel useful rather than performative.
